Hypercity-Carrefour Partnership Signals Growing Confidence in Nigeria’s Food Retail Sector

Nigeria’s retail and food distribution sector has received a major boost following the landmark partnership agreement between Hypercity Supermarket and global retail giant Carrefour, a development being hailed as a strong signal of growing investor confidence in Africa’s largest economy.

Speaking during the franchise signing ceremony in Abuja, Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, described the collaboration as a “powerful statement of confidence” in Nigeria’s economy and highlighted its importance for the future of retail, food distribution, and consumer markets across Africa.

Gbajabiamila also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for creating a business-friendly environment that helped facilitate the partnership, noting that Abuja is rapidly positioning itself as a major commercial and investment hub within West Africa.

The agreement marks a significant milestone for Nigeria’s modern retail industry, with Hypercity and Carrefour planning expansion into Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and other major cities nationwide. The collaboration is expected to strengthen food supply chains, improve access to international and locally sourced products, and create new opportunities for food manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers across the region.

Managing Director of Hypercity Supermarket, Sunny Chuwla, stated that the partnership would help drive investment, industrial growth, and large-scale job creation while also providing expanded market access for local producers and suppliers.

The Hypercity-Carrefour partnership demonstrates the increasing demand for high-quality food products, modern retail solutions, and efficient distribution networks across West Africa. As supermarkets, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers continue expanding throughout the region, the need for reliable international suppliers and innovative food brands is stronger than ever.

Food & Beverage West Africa provides a unique platform where global manufacturers can connect directly with leading buyers, importers, retailers, distributors, supermarket chains, and hospitality professionals from Nigeria and across the West African market.
